Pros

This LCD TV has nice picture quality with DVDs and HD content. The Sharp Aquos LC-52D64U does very well with standard definition as well. The visual detail on this set matches the best displays on the market. The color and contrast are both very good and the black levels are on the same level as the best LCD TVs available. Jagged edges in movies and film-based content are very smooth as well. The remote is easy to use and can be used in the dark compliments of the backlit buttons.

Cons

There was some slight banding visible in subtly light-to-dark shaded areas. The viewing angle is limited causing deterioration in the picture color, contrast, and brightness as we moved from the center of the set.

Summary

This LCD TV in Sharp’s D64U series offers awesome performance and like the other models in the series, it is lighter and slimmer than most sets on the market. Because the viewing angle is more narrow than average, this might be a concern for some viewers that sit off-center.

Rundown

Pros

This LCD TV has great picture quality with image details and accurate colors matching some of the best LCD displays on the market. The 120Hz technology doubles frame rates and reduces motion blur. The black levels are good but can be a little bright during the darkest scenes. The HD film mode operations get rid of any jagged edges on any movie content. The remote control is very easy to use and has a backlit function to see in the dark.

Cons

The picture lost some color, contrast, or brightness when we moved away from the center of the screen, making the viewing angle the only con worth noting.

Summary

This LCD TV in Sony’s XBR series is easily among the best LCD TVs on the market right now. The Bravia KDL-52XBR4 has amazing picture quality on all types of programs and even comes with a removable charcoal-colored bezel that you can swap out for colored ones. The colored bezels do cost extra.

Rundown

Pros

This LCD TV has amazing picture quality, accurate colors, and good contrast. Images and video have great depth and dimension. The 120Hz technology works great to reduce motion blur. The black levels are good but tend to be brighter than most LCD TVs during some of the darkest scenes. The Bravia KDL-52XBR5 offers great HD film mode operations that eliminate jagged edges on movie content. It is important to note that the on-screen menu is extremely easy to navigate, the remote control is easy to use and offers a backlit button feature to see what you are pushing in the dark. The warranty on this LCD TV is 18 months which is 6 months longer than most LCD TVs.

Cons

While there aren’t many cons, the brightness levels with HD and SD programs are not as bright as some LCD TVs made for brightly lit rooms but still appear fine. At times, the viewing angle is somewhat limited when we moved away from the center of the screen. There was also some lost color, brightness, and contrast as we moved too.

Summary

While the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR5 is a bit on the pricey side, it is among the best HDTVs on the market and it even has an extra long lasting warranty to come with it.
