Rundown
Pros
Above average DVD and HD picture quality, with an emphasis on detail. Jagged edges, or “jaggies”, that are often caused by movies are effectively removed by film-mode operation. Features 120Hz technology that successfully reduces motion blur by doubling the frame rate. The remote control features backlit buttons for easy use in the dark.
Cons
Does not do a great job of displaying Standard Definition programming. The viewing angle is limited, resulting in loss of color, brightness, or contrast, depending on where in the room the TV is viewed from. Black levels are just decent, causing dark areas of the display to be too bright, which causes dark scenes to appear too bright. Contrast is a bit weak, causing the images in dark scenes to have a generally less dynamic appearance. In many cases images appear somewhat hazy, and it takes a bit of settings manipulation to get colors to display properly.
Summary
Depending on what you’re looking for, this 52” 1080p model from Sharp may or may not be suited for you. For HD and DVD viewing by small audiences, this TV is a good choice. However, due to its poor performance with Standard Definition programming and subpar black levels, you might want to look for something with better ratings.
